Design at makandra: Our website relaunch
In this interview, Laura Hacker, Head of UI at makandra, talks about the process and the thoughts behind the redesign of our company website.
We launched our new website on April 9, 2024. It comes in a modern and colorful design. The black and red accents of the old site are complemented by cheerful peach-colored gradients and animated icons.
Here is a short interview with Laura, who was responsible for the UI/UX design during the relaunch of our website.
Interview with Laura Hacker, Head of UI at makandra
How long did the conception take?
Laura: We were completely free as far as the design was concerned, only the logo was to be retained. That's why we created a few mood pages at the beginning, where we tried out colors, concepts, elements and visual effects. Once we had agreed on a color combination, the first layouts were created. The design system and components were then built on this basis. This design phase took about 45 person-days.
What was the background to this design?
Laura: The most striking change is definitely the colors. These consist mainly of black, white and a peach-colored gradient. The color gradient stands for our expanded range of services. It also adds a fresh and modern look. We wanted to stay true to ourselves and not be too fancy. It should still have a clear structure and convey the quality we stand for and our values.
What specific goals were pursued with the new design?
How were the visual elements of the website selected and what was the intention behind them?
Laura: The typography is also a design element, not just the content. The colors are restrained except for the color gradient, which is used to highlight important things. We have designed several different building blocks that allow us to make the different pages more individual and thus not only make them more interesting, but also emphasize our content.
Above all, it was also important to us that we personalize the website. That we show who we are in order to appeal to customers and, above all, new applicants. There are lots of photos and the presentation is very large. There are also other new highlights such as the animated icons.
