Set up a new cluster

We design the architecture, set up the cluster, and provide your team with everything it needs to perform its own deployments. You’ll start with an environment that is secured, monitored, and defined in Infrastructure as Code from the very beginning.

Migrate the application to Kubernetes

We analyze your existing application, containerize it, and migrate its operations, including data migration and the transition of deployment processes. We plan the migration so that downtime is eliminated or occurs within a prearranged window.

Import an Existing Cluster

If your cluster is already up and running, we’ll first check its status: configuration, security, backups, monitoring, and resource allocation. After that, we’ll take over operations in your environment or migrate the workloads to our infrastructure.

Setting Up CI/CD Pipelines

If the cluster is running but deployments are done manually or inconsistently, we’ll set up the pipelines: from automated testing to rollout via GitOps. Your team can then handle the rollout on its own, in a reproducible manner and with rollback capabilities.

Once setup is complete, we can take over day-to-day operations upon request: managing, monitoring, and optimizing your environment. When specific issues arise, we perform targeted analyses of clusters and applications, and we provide additional services within the cluster, such as Redis or Valkey, OpenSearch, and the Harbor container registry.

When Kubernetes Makes Sense and When It Doesn't

Kubernetes solves problems that only arise once a certain scale is reached. Below that threshold, it creates more work than it saves. We'll let you know in advance which of the two scenarios applies to you.

Kubernetes is worth it if...

  • Your application consists of multiple services that are deployed and scaled independently of one another.
  • the load fluctuates significantly and you do not want to maintain capacity on a permanent basis.
  • You need to set up multiple environments in a reproducible manner, such as development, staging, and production.
  • Your team already uses containers and automated deployments.
  • High availability is required beyond the scope of individual machines.

Kubernetes isn't worth it if...

  • If you are running a single application with a consistent load, a traditional virtual machine setup is more cost-effective, easier to manage, and sufficiently resilient.
  • the decision is primarily justified by the fact that Kubernetes is the current standard.

We'll set up your Kubernetes cluster so you can get started right away, including security, system environment, and a coordinated handover.

  • Installation of the latest Kubernetes release
  • Hardening the cluster and the underlying operating system
  • Setting up the system environment (Kubernetes cluster including CNI, cluster authentication, persistent storage, ingress controller, GitOps framework, and database cluster)
  • Handover and coordination of the data required for deployment with your developers (e.g., Helm charts or Flux configuration)

How your cluster is operated

After handover, we take over day-to-day operations. You’ll be able to contact the technical representatives on our DevOps team directly.

  • Daily backups of database contents and persistent volumes
  • Point-in-time recovery for databases: You can restore your data to the exact state it was in at any given point in time. This helps in cases of unintended changes, data loss, and after system outages
  • Infrastructure as Code: Infrastructure and configuration are version-controlled in configuration management tools, ensuring that every change remains traceable and repeatable

The division of responsibilities is clearly defined: We manage clusters and platform services; you are responsible for your application and its deployment.

Kubernetes is an open-source platform that automates the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. Originally developed at Google, Kubernetes is now the standard for container orchestration, both at cloud providers and in on-premises data centers.

Kubernetes distributes containers across multiple nodes, restarts failed containers, and provisions additional instances when the load increases. Updates are performed without downtime, and a rollback is possible at any time. For teams with frequent releases, this significantly reduces the amount of manual work required.

Kubernetes is powerful and, as a result, complex. The most significant challenges arise during setup, with persistent storage, network configuration, and security and compliance. Production operation requires ongoing monitoring and maintenance. Without experience with containers and distributed architectures, a cluster can quickly become a burden.

The time required depends on the desired components and integrations. In many cases, a fully functional cluster can be set up in just a few days. For more complex requirements, we’ll work with you to plan the implementation.

Our hosting infrastructure is located in high-availability data centers in Germany. This ensures that our customers benefit from the highest security and quality standards, for example, in the areas of climate control, power supply, network and Internet connectivity, as well as the physical security of the buildings.

We operate a server cluster optimized for data and uptime reliability, consisting of multiple machines, to ensure smooth operation even in the event of hardware failures. For production environments, we generally recommend the use of redundant systems.

We regularly maintain the host systems and install the available security updates. We’d be happy to provide further information about the hardware specifications upon request.

Kubernetes can be configured to automatically provision additional containers when demand increases, within the limits of available cluster resources. We continuously monitor utilization and work with you to adjust capacity.
